Engineer's Day Special

Hello peopleπŸ’– ! I wish all Engineers across India a very Responsible Engineer's Day (September 15 th)πŸ’―πŸ’―

Welcome to Tech Taste Series :-)

Tech Taste #1 is all about SECURITY and PRIVACY IS A MYTH.  In this Engineer's Day, you people will be knowing how the saved passwords can be revealed which are managed by search engines(Eg : Google).

Follow the below steps side by side in your browser to get a real time experience

Step 1 : Let us take any site where we saved/managed our passwords. In my case I took my GitHub account to illustrate the process.

Here I have saved my GitHub password so that I am not needed to enter my password during sign in process. It will be auto-filled by our engine.

Step 2: Now right click , you could see many options there.

We could see many options like the above image. The magical option which helps us to reveal our saved password is the Inspect element option.

Step 3: Right click on that password column that magical option will lead you to DevTools. You could see like this at your right hand side.

Step 4: Take a look at the highlighted part in the below image

The highlighted part is going to reveal our password . Many people might have guessed it by now. Let us go ahead a single step and know our hidden password behind those dots.

Step 5: Change the input type from password to text then press ENTER. Taadaa , our password is revealed. Check the below image for further clarity

That's it your saved password is revealed ! Had Fun unboxing your saved password behind that dots... ? Yes , many Thanks to Developer Tools. Developer Tools are one such way to learn stuffs from behind the scenes.

Follow Up:

  1. What happens if an intruder gets access to your PC/laptop ?
  2. Will your identity be safe and secured ?
  3. Will you have privacy ?
  4. Will there be safety ?

A Big No is the honest answer ! But don't panic. Here goes the precautionary measures which are mandatory in order to be safe and secured in this digital world !

  1. Don't share your password
  2. Have a descent Antivirus software to protect your PC as well as your online presence
  3. Don't save/manage important passwords in your devices
  4. Don't click links if it is not from authorized person/organisation
  5. The most important part is don't share links if it is not from an authenticated/verified resources. This may make you fall in a trap which reflect you as an illegitimate.
  6. Don't download any resources which comes as a pop-up during your online presence.

As a final note I wish to share my perspective of this Digital World. In this Digitally richest era PRIVACY and SECURITY is a MYTH. Be aware. Don't make yourselves fall in a trap. As an Engineer it is my responsibility to enable engineering around me ! I believe that Engineers are
  1. CREATORS of a marvelous civilization
  2. ACCOUNTABLE for people
  3. DESTROYERS of illicit actions

To all my fellow Engineers and people over there let us make this world a sustainable habitat for the upcoming generations !

Until another Tech Taste Series "Let us Engineer daily"
